CCC Legislative Bulletin February 12, 2016
CCC Legislative Bulletin No. 03-2016 is here on the Coalition Correspondence page.

The Coalition’s legislative initiative to promote Bay wide oyster restoration has been introduced as HB758 / SB964. The CCC worked closely with DNR to fashion a bill that the Administration would support. A special thanks to our lead sponsors: Delegate Tony O’Donnell and Senator Addie Eckardt, and all the co-sponsors.

On the flip side, a bill that will cripple the oyster fishery and thwart oyster restoration efforts has been introduced as Senate Bill 937. The Delmarva Fisheries Association has responded to this legislation accordingly.

CCC Legislative Bulletin February 5, 2016
This is CCC Legislative Bulletin No. 02-2016. There is only one new bill of interest to report: HB325 (Environment - Bay Restoration Fund - Use of Funds – Nutrient Credit Purchases) which is a departmental (MDE) bill authorizing the use of BRF funds for costs associated with the purchase of cost-effective nutrient credits in furtherance of Bay restoration. We recommend support. With no other bills to consider, there is no need to convene the Legislative Committee.

The bill embodying our oyster restoration initiative this session is in bill drafting and should be available next week for circulation.

CCC Testimony at Man O'War Shoal Hearings February 2-3, 2016
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and MDE held joint hearings in Baltimore County (Feb. 2) and Dorchester County (Feb. 3) on DNR’s permit application to dredge natural oyster from Man O’War Shoal in the Upper Bay for use in oyster restoration. We attended both hearings and provided testimony. We will be submitting more substantive written comments to USACE and MDE in support of the DNR permit application before the February 18 deadline. Simply put, access to natural Chesapeake Bay oyster shell is essential to meaningful large-scale oyster restoration.

HarborRock

"HarborRock was formed to address a critical need in the maritime industry - low cost and reliable disposal of dredged materials. To accomplish this goal HarborRock developed a process for manufacturing lightweight aggregate from dredged materials. By producing a highly marketable end product this process is a cost-effective and premanent disposal solution for large volumes of dredged sediments."
